Although we were disappointed by the news from the Big Lottery, we have been busy looking at alternative ways to raise the £300,000 needed to kit out the building.
We are pleased to announce that Southway’s ” Sense Of Place” Fund have confirmed funding of £103,000, this is over a third of what is needed. Other applications are being made to both Veolia and The Wates Family Fund.
Site preparation is underway and building work is scheduled to begin in early February 2013.
We finished the Christmas term by having a party for the Playgroup children. We had a children’s entertainer come into the session who played music for the children, pass the parcel and did some balloon modeling for them.We had a visit from Peppa Pig who brought the children’s Christmas presents.
The party was enjoyed by all the children and adults.
BMCA want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Many in our community have already started celebrating Christmas this year including our over 60’s group and senior youth who all enjoyed a Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings put on by staff and volunteers. We hope you and your family have an amazing time over Christmas.
We have been advised by the Big Lottery Fund that we have been unsuccessful in our bid for funds to fit out the new community centre. This is of course disappointing news and will require us to make some amendments to our original timescales, however the Board of BMCA Ltd, together with Southway Housing Trust Ltd, remain committed to the development.
The New Centre will still be built, and is on schedule to commence in January 2013, with completion anticipated for August 2013. The relocation and expansion of the Centre’s facilities will now be in two phases:
Phase 1. Re-locate all the existing provision that we have in the centre to the new centre which will provide improved and expanded facilities for all our service users.
Phase 2. Secure alternative funding to develop the facilities to increase and enhance provision for the community with the introduction of a dedicated youth zone, learning centre and library.
On Sunday December the 2nd, Lucy, Martin, Tom, Daniella, Carl and Susan a teacher from Chorlton High braved freezing temperatures to take part in the Santa Dash. They helped raised around £300 for BMCA! Here’s there account.
It was a freezing morning and we all seemed in a state of shock when we met at the tram station on Sunday morning. Once we arrived at United’s ground, saw the 2,500 people who were taking part and put our Santa suits on the mood lightened! It was so much fun! There were people raising money for all different charities, dressed in all types of costumes, there was even a world record attempt for a 5k conga! Tesco Santas are now the new world record holders for the furthest Santa conga.
Tom was the first to finish, finishing in the top 30. Followed by Martin not long later and then Daniella, Lucy, Susan and Carl all finished together.
BMCA and Southway held a free information and advice day on Friday 2nd of November. We had a great day of fun activities, food, advice, connecting with people and making new friends. We had a great turn out, thanks to help of staff and volunteers and thanks to Creative Pulse it was all captured on camera!
